How to measure rubber tracks

How to measure rubber tracks

In this article, we’ll walk you through how to measure rubber tracks and figure out which ones are correct for your machine in three easy steps. But first a few words about rubber tracks and their characteristics.

Rubber tracks: what are they?

Rubber tracks are made of a mixture of natural rubber and synthetic rubber with the addition of anti-abrasive chemicals to reduce the percentage of chafing wear on certain abrasive or compact surfaces.

Inside the track is the actual core of the rubber track. Steel cable with continuous wire (without joints) and metal inserts (also called “teeth or links”).

The quality of the rubber compound, the diameter and the number of windings of the steel cord and the composition of the steel used in the production of the metal inserts make the difference!

How can I identify the caterpillar size?

To identify the caterpillar, just follow these three simple steps:

  1. measure track width in mm = first dimension e.g. 230mm
  2. measure the distance between the center of the tooth and the center of the next tooth = second dimension e.g. 96mm
  3. count the number of metal inserts (teeth) = third dimension e.g. 33

These three elements provide the measurement of the track that mounts your machine, in this case it will be a 230x96x33.
